Android developer verification: will APKs still install?

Google is starting to check who made the apps you install from outside the Play Store. Here is the timeline, what changes in India, and what the new "advanced flow" for unverified apps involves.

Installing an app from an APK file has worked the same way on Android for years: allow "Install unknown apps" for your browser or file manager, tap the file, and press Install. Google is now changing that. Under its developer verification programme, certified Android phones will check whether the developer behind an app has registered their identity with Google, including for apps installed from outside the Play Store.

If you install Teen Patti Master or any other app as an APK, this affects you, though not all at once. This post covers what Google has published so far on its developer verification page and in its March 2026 announcement.

The timeline

When What happens
August 2026 Developer tools, limited distribution accounts and the "advanced flow" for power users launch
30 September 2026 Protections begin for users installing apps from participating stores in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, on certified devices running Android 7 or later
2027 Google says verification will expand globally to all apps on certified Android devices

A certified device is a phone or tablet that ships with Google Play and Google's apps, which covers nearly every Android phone sold in India.

What it means in India right now

India is not one of the four countries in the first wave. As of this update, APKs install on Indian phones the way they did before: the browser warning, the "Install unknown apps" permission and a Play Protect scan. Google has said the checks will reach all certified devices in 2027, but it has not published a date for India yet.

What changes once it arrives

When you install an APK, Android will check whether the app's developer is verified.

  • Verified developer: the install should look much like it does today. The developer has given Google their identity, so the app can be traced back to someone.
  • Unverified developer: the normal install is blocked. Experienced users can still install through the advanced flow described below.

Developers who share apps with a handful of people, such as students or hobbyists, can use a limited distribution account that lets them install on up to 20 devices without ID or a registration fee.

How the advanced flow works

Google designed the advanced flow so that installing unverified apps takes deliberate effort. Scammers often talk people through installing a fake app over a phone call, and the steps are meant to break that pattern. Based on Google's March 2026 announcement, it goes like this:

  1. Turn on developer mode in Settings.
  2. Confirm that nobody is pressuring or coaching you to change your security settings.
  3. Restart the phone and sign in again. This ends any active call or remote access session.
  4. Wait one day. The wait happens only once, the first time you set this up.
  5. Confirm with your fingerprint, face unlock or PIN.
  6. Choose whether to allow unverified installs for 7 days or indefinitely.

After that, unverified apps install with a warning, and you tap "Install anyway" to continue.

What this means for Teen Patti Master and similar apps

Whether the Teen Patti Master APK installs normally after the change depends on whether its developer verifies with Google. We do not know yet, and any site claiming to know is guessing. Two things are certain:

  • A genuine app from a verified developer will keep installing the usual way.
  • Copycat and "mod" APKs are the most likely to come from unverified, anonymous developers. Those will hit the block first. For most players that is good news, because fake APKs are the main way Teen Patti accounts get stolen.

If you ever see a screen saying the developer is unverified, stop and ask where the file came from. Our APK safety check walks through how to tell a genuine file from a fake.

A warning about "bypass" guides

Expect videos and websites offering to "skip verification" or "force install" any APK, and modified installer apps that promise to do it for you. Treat them the way you would treat a Teen Patti hack: as a scam. The advanced flow is Google's official route. Anything that asks you to install another app first, or to give a stranger remote access, is the kind of trick the new checks exist to stop.

For install errors you can hit today, such as "App not installed" or a Play Protect block, see our fix guide. For the normal install steps on each phone brand, see how to install the Teen Patti Master APK.

Frequently asked questions

Can I still install APKs in India?

Yes. As of this update the new checks apply only in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand. Google says they will expand worldwide in 2027.

What is Android developer verification?

A Google programme that requires developers to register their identity before their apps can be installed normally on certified Android devices, including apps installed from outside the Play Store.

Will unverified apps be blocked completely?

No. Google's advanced flow lets experienced users install them after a one-time setup that includes a one-day wait and a fingerprint, face or PIN check.

Does this change affect apps from the Play Store?

Apps on the Play Store already go through Google's developer checks. The change mainly affects APKs installed from websites and other stores.

Will the Teen Patti Master APK still work?

That depends on whether its developer completes verification, which has not been announced. If it does, the app will install as it does today.
